Most of our work breaks into three buckets: full replacement after wind or hail, full replacement because the roof has reached end-of-life, and targeted repair (leaks, tree damage, flashing failures, a few squares of damaged shingles).
A few specifics worth knowing.
Asphalt architectural shingle is what 80% of Houston homeowners end up with on a replacement, for good reasons: ~$4-5/sq ft installed, 30-year manufacturer warranty, and handles Houston heat-and-humidity better than 3-tab. We install GAF Timberline HDZ and Owens Corning Duration as our two go-to options. Class 4 impact-resistant (CertainTeed Landmark IR or GAF Timberline AS II) adds about 18% to the cost and stands up better to hail - worth doing if you're in the May hail corridor (basically anywhere west of I-45).
Standing-seam metal is our second-most-installed material. Higher upfront ($10-14/sq ft), lasts 40-50 years, handles wind better in hurricanes. Popular in River Oaks, the Heights, and increasingly in Bellaire. We install Galvalume and aluminum standing-seam in the standard widths.
Flat roof systems (TPO and modified bitumen) on commercial buildings and the occasional flat-roof residential. TPO is the cheaper option ($7-10/sq ft), modified bitumen is more durable in Houston heat ($9-13/sq ft). We don't recommend EPDM in this climate.
Repairs are honest work but usually a temporary fix. If a roof is past 18-22 years old, repairing one section often just delays an inevitable full replacement by a year or two. We'll tell you that up front rather than booking the repair, taking the money, and seeing you again in eight months.
Tile replacement (concrete or clay) we sub to a tile specialist crew we trust - not because we can't do it, but because they're faster and cheaper than us on tile work and the margins are tight.
We do not do shake-to-shake re-roofing, solar install, or skylight retrofits as a standalone service.
